Opinions: ASCO Plenum

  • #16
As stated before, I do have the intake, exaust (CM 3"), and boost has been increased to 10psi. Obviously that is not enough to generate the benefits outlined by ASCO. Are you saying I should see more with the mods I have or won't see the benefits until I go bigger turbo, bigger injectors and a tune?

I doubt you could really feel much of a difference with 10-20hp gain anyways. You'll probably notice a little more open breathing feeling on the top end, but other than that, without using the plenum as a part of the large scale modifications, i.e, larger turbo, intercooler system, built engine, ported heads and all that fun stuff.

I've wanted to do a gutted plenum, but I know for right now with my current mild modifications, it wont make much of a difference. It may add some bling factor under the hood for the time being, but I wont bother upgrading the plenum until I get into the stages/modifications I listed above.

Not saying that you wasted your money. A gutted plenum is a great investment, and will definitely do you justice for now, and any future mods you throw at it. The 7-10% increase is probably accurate on the top end, but if you can actually feel it on the butt dyno, who knows?

Thanks for the reply. Makes sense. I guess I got into premature plenum aquisition. Not feeling much on the butt dyno. I just increased boost by 3 lbs about 4-5 months ago. Definitely felt that.

3-4psi of boost increase is like a 40-50whp gain. A gutted plenum is like 10whp maybe....Dyno it before and after. Butt dynos suck for accuracy. :nanan?re

True enough. It definitely helped mid range and top end repsonse. It pulls hard/harder to redline. A nice addition indeed. A fairly expensive one but nice. I'm enjoying it.

I even had a t3/t04e pushing 20+psi, and I was still using the stock oem plenum with the stock throttle body.

You really have to have supporting mods to utilize the potential from a gutted plenum, even then, you may not "feel" the difference.
Hugh differance on modded motor.... cams p&p heads exhaust and a 58mm turbo.....
