Can this be fixed?

  • #16
My 85t was driven on the snow/salt/sand covered roads of New England for 19 years when it was my winter car and never looked like that there.
Restore it, Don't crush it. They don't make them like this anymore.

Since we're all in the "can this be fixed" what about this. I noticed a slight hole to the wheel well from the tool kit area.

Then the tool kit area itself.

And finally the rest of the trunk which looked fine

That 1/4 window had an antenna installed for a old school phone/cb radio. definitely going to get it removed and have that website sealed properly.

I took an angle grinder and took out all the rust then just bought thin sheet metal and cutted and frabricated the shape of it and welded it on there. It actually looks good and decent! Plus it saved rain from falling into the passenger floor. It sucked cuz I live in FL and its rain season so I needed to fix ASAP. Btw that piece is called a cowl panel top. Nissan stopped making it. But MSA can special order it but it cost over 200 bucks. You can also find it at car-parts.com. I went the easy route and just got sheet metal from Home Depot and just went to town!
you didn't weld yours on. you JB Welded it on, which is not the proper way to do a permanent fix. had you actually welded it, it would have been a lot more work.

technically if i spot welded metal on there, it would of been a lot faster…I dont have a welder so I used the jb weld.. I didnt even fab it smooth enough to lay flat together..I stuck them together with jb weld and then drilled in with screws to hold them in place…i know it aint a proper permanent fix BRO I aint stupid..now careless your just being to technical.. I was just showing him the route that will fix the issue..calm down..

no one said you were stupid. but what you're saying is not true. you did not weld anything. you glued it. and to tell someone to do the same… that is stupid. you're the one that needs to "relax" BRO. your route will not fix the issue, it covers up the issue.

when you start interchanging words like "fabricated" and "cutted" and "glued" and "welded", and then start recommending other people fix their car with that half-assed method (yes, it's half assed- sorry to inform you or criticize, but it is a janky repair), then don't expect people to sit there and not call you out when you're advising other people to do half-assed repairs to their car as well.

at the end of the day, you welded nothing. you glued it. that's not me being "technical", that's you taking the word "weld" in the name of a product you used, and pretending that's what you actually did.

I'm not suggesting him doing a half ass job. I didn't tell him to use jb weld or anything .. So get it straight. BRO

you're missing the point. I'm not on my "period" because I pointed out that you didn't "weld" anything, but you kept using that word as if you fused two pieces of metal together with heat.

learn the difference and you wouldn't be so butt hurt when someone calls you out on it, especially when telling people what you did and then saying they might have to go the same route. in case you forgot writing it:

anyways, I don't care. keep doing what you're doing- whatever you think it is.
