headlight motors wont go up

gday ive been having trouble with my headlight motors,
they worked perfectly until one day when i had the battery disconnected and they were up, i manually wound both of them down,
ever since then they have worked when they felt like it, nothing has changed apart from the fact i wound them down manually, sometimes they go up and back down, but now they have stopped working, the headlight switch is fine, the lights turn on and off, high beams are fine,
when i press the manual switch to pop them up, nothing happens, both motor fuses are fine, the little light in the switch doesnt light up,

i was hoping there was someone that should share some wisdom on a simple fix, maybe if someone has done this before as well?
