I was poking around on hybridZ a little. It's just hard organizing information when you don't have an understanding about the subject. Sometimes just asking is best. I think I have a better understanding of the process and things I'll need to do this. I was just unsure of the compatability of aftermarket LSDs with my half-shafts at first. I'm actually looking forward to getting a parts list together! I'm just going to rebuild the broken open-diff. I have with a LSD unit. I just have to decide on which LSD to go with now. I will keep you guys updated (i probably wont start for a bit since I moving soon).

Anyways, keep the suggestions/info flowing. Lots of good info surfacing here.

precision gear makes the nismo ones, you could start with them?

seems like a good route. i assume nismo units aren't that agressive when compared to the cusco and others? yet a little more on the performance side when compared to a stock CLSD right?

you remove one axle, put a socket+extension into the splined hole, turn it either direction and change preload almost on the fly, or tighten it up to get some more life out of it between servicing.

correct. and they cost roughly the same depending on who you get it from or what kind of vendors you are willing to buy from.

i just read through the differential section of the FSM, holy crap… intimidating work to say the least!

besides the torque wrench, micrometer and dial indicator, it says you should use some other special tools when completely overhauling the differential. is it absolutely necessary for them? or can one improvise?

You can still find the nismo ones. They just cost as much as any other aftermarket ones.

I've been reading up on that too, but not sure.

Last I heard Nismo R200 units were out of stock in the US, but would have to check again.

Not the new GT ones with the socket adjuster like careless said… the old ones like ours (see-through) are hard to find

Have one on my Race Z. Have a stock CLSD shimmed to 75 ft lbs breakaway torque on my street Z (used to race it)

I wish I a Quaife in my street car....so smooth
