Has my Transmission failed?

Has stopped shifting. When I accelerate, the rpm's will quickly redline. I can drive a slower speeds to avoid redlining. However when driving at those slower speed, it seems as if the car slipped in to neutral until I press the gas harder.
    Thanks in advance

Yes, You may have lost the shifting module, or it could be low on automatic trans hydraulic fluid.
After, checking it out carefully, please write back. I have just removed an automatic trans from my 88 in good working order and installed a 5 speed.
If you need a trans, please write me back and I will offer you a decent price + Shipping 814.882.1175
I live up north halfway between Buffalo, NY and Cleveland, OH and could have it there in 2 days

You won't find many good answers here, almost everyone will tell you to 5-speed swap

Anyway, narrow down the problem a little, is it engaging and slipping or disengaging? Could be the torque converter isn't locking up (low fluid, low pressure due to contaminants..)

How does the fluid look/smell? Is it brown with dark or light flecks in it? Does it smell acrid like something burnt?

Are all the sensors and plugs good? Bad electrical contacts = bad feedback = bad operation… do the ASCD troubleshooting flowchart per fsm as well

When was the last time it had any servicing (fluid/flush/filter) ?

Years back my sons car had similar issue and was leaking fluid. Found the control valve module (don't remember exactly where it was cause this was 5+ years ago) Removed the part and replaced the O rings which I bought from a hardware store and the problem was solved. Very simple job. The O rings keep the fluid in the proper chambers for shifting thru the gears. When they leak crazy stuff happens.

My 88 FSM shows this starting on page AT-32
