Just to add some more photos, i received mine today.

Gear width (inner, outer gear was the same but image was blurry:

    Cavity Depth:

Oil pressure adjustment for auto cars, the top spring was in the pump, the lower is what i assume they mean by RED spring, even though it's black.:

Casting was nice and clean with inspection/quality control marks.

    The sand that Rick noticed:

    Enhance!

Can you zoom in on grid A-3 and extrapolate the perpetrators features from their reflection in the car window across the street…

My guess would be a dried lubricant/preservative or something. Crystals around 0.2mm square, which crushed easily.
The mfg date stamp is march 2003, box says Feb 2008, Taiwan. Either way, it's been on the shelf awhile.

So you got yours. The particles in your oil pump look a little different than the ones in mine but more noticeable. The particles in my oil pump look more like metallic dust. Either way it's a good idea to take it apart and give it a thorough cleaning and priming. Is it common practice or a good idea to pack it with petroleum jelly or just pour some oil in it and spin it?

I'm going to pack the gears with assembly lube. I've always followed the idea of turning a freshly built motor over by hand a few times with the plugs out,
just to help circulate the oil into the places where it has drained out during the rebuild.
