My Next Motor Swap Project

  • My Next Motor Swap Project

    VK56!!
Nothing like a 5.6 V8 turbocharged to satisfy my thirst for more power!
It might take me a few years to complete the swap

    Preliminary plans are
    Forged Internals
    Cams
    Bigger Injectors (E85)
    Plan on using my PTE6765
And a ton of custom fab work!

    Haha! Coooooooooool

How does the height compare to the vh45?

Will it fit or it is gonna look retarded as a lightning swap in a SN95?

    Dry weight of VH45 = 478lbs
    Dry weight of VK56 = 506lbs
    Dry weight of VG30 = 392lbs

This all was found by googling. I am not 100% of accuracy, but sounds right.

If its fits in a 350z, it'll fit a z31 with no problems.

Looks like a lot of work ahead. What trans will you use?
Prius… because Pretentious wouldn't fit across the back of the car…

Yup, that guy makes a z32 adapter.

I wanted a VK56 for my 88, but I settled for the 5.3 instead. I'll be watching this one.

Someone out there in internet land makes swap kits for the Z33, perhaps some of the components could be adapted for the Z31?

The z32 and z31 share the same bolt pattern.
The vk56 to z32 transmission adapter will work the z31 transmissions.

But alex, think of the starter, doesn't that mean you have to use the vk->vg adapter AND z32 bellhousing+starter?

  • #13
    Yup. Thats correct.

I already have the z32 trans in my Z now. I still have the z32 bell housing sitting in the garage. So yup, all I need is a z32 starter.
AND get this! The crank of the vk56 accepts the flywheel of the z32, no modifications!

    Pretty straight forward!

I was referring to engine mounts. I think SIKKY makes a kit.
    5.3 LSx Z31

The real question: What kind of numbers will it support compared to your already powerful VG.
This looks like a lot of fun.
