Rebuilding T3 Issue

  • Rebuilding T3 Issue

Hi everyone, I'm rebuilding a t3 and I ran into an issue. In the picture you can see the bolt is in a difficult place, so i make sure to make a custom wrench to fit with the closed end on it hoping that the bolt wouldn't round off as it would with a open end. But i failed and still i ended up with a round bolt and its in a weird place to get to. Anyone got any ideas? I thought my only option is to grind the bolt down and drill it out but if theirs any other way i would prefer taking that route. Thanks

]So off came the housing but this is a new one to me. While taking off the exhaust turbine housing Ive managed to somehow break a piece off of the center section. I must add this exhaust housing was welded on like no other. But anyway i was wondering if anyone has had this happen before and what they did. Also if i were to continue the rebuild would their be consequences in the future? I just want to know if i turned this turbo into a paper weight, hope that's not the case. If you know a good welder it can be repaired… is it worth it? is it going to be reliable? is it going to leak?

    I don't know…

I changed mine to ensure no shaft play. I bought this and it's been great for years.

    Don't weld, replace.

Okay well i guess my best bet is to just see what happens, weld it or get a new center section. Nice find by the way, did you have your turbo rebalanced after getting the new center section? My biggest worry is it leaking exhaust and loosing boost.

It ain't leaking nothing or loosing nothing. From engine to the tip of my exhaust is rebuilt or new. No shortcuts were taken. I dumped the original housing because it was worn. That's why rebuilt turbos still exhibit shaft play sometimes. I got the turbine balanced because I converted to dynamic seal.
