N/A z31 for road racing

    Another part I forgot

In other words, slotting the upper perch might be illegal, but camber plates are specifically mentioned as being legal. Ground control will sell you these when you buy your front coilover kit.

Slotting the rear crossmember for camber adjustment is also legal.
    Just in case you're wondering, I'm Pylon_Boy

so what they are saying is you can add any kind of offset plate to move the bottom or top of the front strut in or out and adjust the caster via shimming or again offsetting the tension arm somehow

and you know well that other cars in the same class will have better performance or just power-to-weight than the z, so doing things like cam gears and ecu isn't cheating at all, and slotting the tower might be illegal by the book but the effect isn't

why don'y you recommend which way to move the strut tower and by how much, and how much camber to go with and such… or give him a place to start anyway

Well, even that assumption of cheating is wrong. Some will argue that you don't cheat until you start beating people.

Anway, cam gears might be cheating (I didn't read the engine stuff, that bores me). And Jason has a proven way to go "stand alone" and fit all the rules completely.

There actually was an article a few years ago about which was a better IT car, the 240z or the z31.

The main problem with the z31 was that there was virtually no information out there, but it had some very promising things. Set up a z31 right and you don't have to cheat. This has been proven before.

I'm not telling him which way to slot because he should already know that just by looking at the car. If he doesn't know that then he shouldn't be racing. This isn't z31.com. This is Z31 Performance, where knowledge is a prerequisite. No one should have to hold people's hands like that here.

I just read the rules most of the way through.

Wow, there are a lot of ways the Z31 could now be much more of a contender because of relatively new revelations.

Adjustable cam gears are not allowed per the rules unless they are outfitted as adjustable from the factory.

I have a link to that somewhere. I'll post it if I find it.

Wow, I could not have said it better myself.

I'm reading the rules right now…I'm already figuring in my head how to build a Z31 for this. weeeee

just to be clear I wasn't suggesting telling him what to do, but more like what you think the car needs, replacing, cutting and modifying things take time, and changes all need to be tested

pointing someone in the right direction doesn't make this zcar.com, carrying on inane discussion about how megan racing makes better tension rods than battle version when you haven't used either of them, and have never tracked a car would

that said I think from an engineering perspective a lot, and I mean most of the aftermarket stuff is absolute crap, on par with fake tag heuer watches

Well, we are not IT racers… if your or I had been, I would probably have had a lot of knowledge in that area to share with him. I hope he at least got something out of the post here.

There are very few people around zcar/z31/most other forums who think "I can do that myself" when it comes to making parts or doing modifications. Lots of people have everything else done for them, take all of the credit as if it was some huge accomplishment every simgle time, and at the very most simply bolt the parts together (hmmm, who am I talking about?). That's OK though, because there is someone behind the scenes making this stuff, and no matter how badly the end user may have his head screwed on, we still get the see and learn from the end result either way.
