When to change TIming Belt based on Age?

  • When to change TIming Belt based on Age?

I have an 86 Turbo. When I bought the car I had the Timing belt and CHTS changed with Water Pump et all. I have had it 7 years now and have put a little over 10,000 miles on it. One shop tells me 10 years for the belt, another tells me 8 years. Do I go for the 10 years and should I change the Water Pump, tensioner et all again?

    Thoughts?

I think i'm about 60,000 and 11 years on a belt on my 84T and haven't thought about it until recently.

I plan on bringing mine in the garage for a full service this next spring though.

If the coolant is clean, i wouldn't necessarily worry about the water pump.

Do you know if your front main and cam seals were replaced back then?

Those items might justify a belt and tensioner change if they haven't been replaced yet.

Tough call as it really is subjective.

I've always heard 5 years or 60,000 miles so thats what what I've been doing. When your in there changing the belt change water pump, CHTS and subharness, thermostat, cam and crank seal, and tensioner IMO
