Crank pulley interchange or…

  • Crank pulley interchange or…

    Hey guys,
I'm try to get an 84 engine into my 89 for the winter in order to take it to get body work and such done.
It'll stay in the car till mid summer while I do a much needed rebuild/build on the 89 engine.
What I would like to know is can I use my 89 crank pulley on the 84 (with 84 crank) so I can keep all the 89 accessories (including AC). I'm just looking for options that get me the most without loosing much.

    Thanks for the help.

We told you on Facebook that you can't put a W series crank pulley (4/87 to 89) on a A/B series crank (84-3/87).

You definitely can interchange pulleys, the people on Facebook are wrong. It's been done before and there are old threads about it.

I don't have a Facebook. I talked to my friend about it and he said he did ask for me on Facebook and never told me. I'll never have have Facebook lol.

Thanks for the links Peg, I'll get a longer bolt and give it a try. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Yeah I was gonna say, I have an A/B engine in my Shiro and it most certainly has a W series pulley on it…

Best way is to get an early 87 pulley which is all serpentine belts but for the short snout A/B crank. I had two but sold one.
    Cha iro

    enjoy building it yourself.
    if it fails, fuck it.
at least you gave it a whirl.

I'm going through this same problem as well. My "'87" is actually an '86. I could only find a W-Series pulley (all serpentine belts) but my car has a A/B motor. I'm trying to find a longer bolt now to make it work. Thanks also for the links above Peg.

Haha yeah if I had the money that would be the way I'd go.
But hey the bolt I got was from one of peg's links
    fastenal pn 11114730. m12x1.25x100 10.9 grade.
It worked just fine and with all the W accessories brackets on the block as well.
Thanks for the help guys (solved!)

ha-ha-ha, bolt is a solution, really.
btw-does it costs so much to make a custum pulley in USA? according to numerous topics -it doesn't.

Depends on your definition of cheap, and whether or not you can hand them a CD and say "make this" or if they have to get out a caliper. Either way, it will still be a few hundred dollars.

As much as a custom aluminum pulley set would be be awesome, it's not really the point. The point is I have crap sitting in the garage I would like to put to use while my car money goes into body work. The car in dealing with is 100 percent stock NA auto. The amount of work planed for it over the next year, even $200 is stupid for a pulley when I only need an $8 bolt to get by.

I'm not sure Korean parts would be cheap. Yes, cheaper to OEM, but anyway
