I should've done something like that, but I was just pulling them off cars I saw and throwing them in my bag 'o tools. I want to use the bracket that the injector cooling fan uses, but I would need to drill out the holes on the PTU to run the correct size bolt to the nuts on the bottom of the bracket.

Snagged a PRW-2A and a PRW-2. I'm going to test both and see if there is a difference between the two. The PRW-2A came off a Quest I believe.
Blue 86NA slicktop 5spd. VG33et swap soon to come.
    Silver 86NA T-top 5spd.
Red 89NA 5spd dead and sent to hell.

If you took it off a maxima then you have to take off the bracket with the module. The module is held on additionally with screws on the bracket.

If you got it off a quest, then you got it off a quest that was made before 1999 with the vg30 motor. The later year after 99 had an internal coil.

Just info for someone looking for it.

I don't think there is going to be a discernable difference between the PRW-1/1a/2/2a ignitors. More importantly, check the wiring diagram for the version you have- but it seems as though they're all the same.

I think any of the PRW ignitors are just a lot better than the archaic transistors in the older versions. Perhaps the manufacturing process or materials are just a lot better at controlling ignition across all 3 leads.

Hrm, maybe something to do next week. Should take a trip out to my local JY. Usually they have nothing there in the way of imports, but it's been a while since I've been. Last time I was there, he had a couple new VG33 pathfinders, But the S13 he had there for years was missing. Assuming he sent it off to the scrap heap finally. Was going to inquire about the rear subframe lol

Yep, I used a test harness and drove the original, PRW-1, and PRW-2 and the two newer ones were indistinguishable. I have also noticed what feels like a quicker throttle response and slightly smoother idle with the new versions.

  • Re: Upgrade to PRW-2 Ign. Control Module (Power Transistor U

I installed this over at 862sik's place and it really feels like a new car. Throttle response is much better and it seems my powerband is actually always there, where prior to the swap I would often have "dead spots" hitting the gas in the lower RPM range.

Can't really speak for the idle as of now. Seems pretty stable, but I am still having what feels like a miss everyone once in a while at my normal idle. Around 1400rpm it disappears though.

    same, weird!

I haven't made a for sale thread yet, but I have 3 or 4 of these I'll sell that I pulled at the junkyard the other weekend. All PRW-2, all verified to work on my brother's 85 Z. I was thinking $12 shipped. PM me if you're interested.

Revs seem more responsive, but it looks like it's idling higher.

  • Re: Upgrade to PRW-2 Ign. Control Module (Power Transistor U

    The idle seems less burbly

  • Re: Upgrade to PRW-2 Ign. Control Module (Power Transistor U

Installed my PRW-2 today. No difference in start up, seems to idle a little better (less "bouncy"), rpm range seems smoother, and yes my flat spot has disappeared as well. Not bad for a $5.00 junk yard part. (Plus a new harness clip because I F*ed up the stock one on the first try). :mad Oops.

  • Re: Upgrade to PRW-2 Ign. Control Module (Power Transistor U

Yeah I've got some extra ones laying around that I grabbed as well.

    $10 shipped here.
