    We are looking into using the TXS lite knock sensor feeding into the software. I've enabled reading the knock sensor input from the ECU. This gets sampled at about 9 times per second. Not sure this is fast enough for 'real knocking'

    So I'm doing some tests with TXS vs regular knock sensor soon to see how it goes. As of current, no support officially available until I've finished

    So For Nistune on later Z's will I need a Romulator? Or can I just plug into a laptop and tune? cause I have 2 ECU's I could use, I have a 84T(I Believe) and an 87NA, any advantages to one or the other?

    Oh btw, Matt is the creator of Nistune if I'm correct just search Nistune on Google.... not THAT hard?

    Holy crap that nistune website confuses the absolute crap out of me.....

    I have an 87 300zxt. What the hell do i need to buy to tune it. What type of board? 1,2 or 3???

    Should i buy an 88 300zxt ecu (manual tranny) to use nistune? i noticed the webiste said it would work with prior 88 ecu's but would be easier with the 88 ecu???

    Can someone please break this down, barney style, for me.

    I was spoiled by COBB tuning, where i just plug in a box to my ecu port on my subaru and start tuning.....

    your kidding, right? Nistune requires just the slightest bit of though, but it really isnt hard to grasp the concepts. Try reading it again, but slower this time. COBB is geared toward "a.d.d." and "a.d.h.d." subaru retards. They make shit as simple as possible in order to sell the most product. Shit, my friend installed larger injectors and didnt tell the COBB equipment anything and it automatically adjusted everything. That doesnt happen with nistune. Your going to have to get the plug and play idea out of your head if you expect to get anywhere with a z31.

    NIStune uses a daughterboard not a 'chip' so there is no need for any other equipment apart from wideband and laptop

  • What is the highest HP that can be acheived when running the stock ECU and Nistune? Are the limitations even in the computer or in the MAF? I'mm about to invest in the upgrade but wonder if it would be better to just go with a standalone like Haltech.

    While there are limitations, I seriously doubt your goals would exceed what NIStune can provide. The first limitation is the MAF which is easily replaced with a Z32 unit. If you're pushing more than ~600RWHP, you then have a couple different options. 1. You can obtain a higher flowing MAF that's supported, such as the Ford Lightning, or 2. You could delete the MAF entirely and run a MAP setup.

  • So I just received my Nistune ECU with the Zener Diode installed for use with the lightning MAF. Thank you Matt for the quick turn around, the exterior was a little banged up but the ECU was fine. I installed tonight and the car started but ran rich. I also tried to connect to the ecu to check the parameters but the software said "Consult not available with this license". My questions are why will the software not connect with the ECU it is the latest ver.0.9.2.64 and I used the registration matt sent me int an email. Then why did it run so rich on start up? I thought the base rom was that of the stock Z31 that he copied from the ECU when I sent it to him. I'm thinking it has to do with the modification for the lightning MAF. Is it possible to modify the tune till I get the MAF installed?

    Your best bet is to ask these questions on the Nistune forum. Also emailing Matt.

  • I just want to add to this info.

    There are some 486 Intel and AMD Pc's that use a version of Pheonix Bios and AMI Bios that has an executable flash.exe file to burn the on-board flash bios to the motherboard. Some are 28 pin, some are 30 pin, some are 32 pin.

    If you possess one of these computers (as I have a 32 pin version), it is very easy to turn what would seem like a useless CPU into a very reliable chip burner.

    In the bios, you could change the settings "Cache BIOS to Disk" or "Cache BIOS to RAM" (If I remember, this is BIOS Shadowing). It will then load the computer, load your boot disk with DOS on it, and load you into the A: prompt which you can then feed a disk with the flash.exe and the bin file that contains the proper Fuel Map/Nistune BIN file.

    You can then remove the factory ROM chip from the motherboard without shutting the computer down, pop yours in, and go to town with flashing any BIN file you want on there.

    I have an ECS K7VZA motorboard which is for an old AMD setup, and I've used it numerous times in the past to make HomeBrew mod-chips for the original XBOX console before they released various solutions to make this process easier and more configurable.

    Just more info if anyone cares to pull their old junker out of the attic.
